High Altitude Tips!!!!!
* Trip Details and Forms Require Acrobat Reader

High Altitude Health Tips

As you ascend to higher altitudes the atmospheric pressure decreases, the air is colder, drier, and less oxygen is available. Air temperature falls about 3 degrees Fahrenheit for every 1000 feet of elevation. Above 8000 feet, altitude sickness affects 20 to 30% of visitors from low altitude to some degrees.

Avoid Altitude Illness

  1. Increase fluid intake
  2. Decrease salt intake
  3. Start with moderate physical activity
  4. Eat high carbohydrate, low fat meals
  5. Reduce alcohol and caffeine intake    (Yeah Right!)
  6. Feeling worse? Seek help

Prevent Sunburn

  1. Use sunscreen (SPF 15-30)
  2. Always wear sun glasses or goggles

Prevent Cold Injury

  1. Dress in layers
  2. Avoid wet clothing
  3. Wear properly fitting boots and gloves
  4. Drink and eat frequently
  5. Watch each other for warning signs (confusion, difficulty speaking, loss of coordination, etc.)

TRIP RULES

  1. All trip participants shall be members in good standing of the Chattanooga Ski Club or Crescent Ski Council.
  2. All adult applicants must submit the signed trip application form along with the deposit for each person in making application to the trip captain.
  3. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by their or other responsible adult who must sign the trip agreement to be responsible for the child.
  4. The Board reserves the right to refuse any trip application.
  5. When a trip has been filled, a priority waiting list will be established for qualified trip applicants who have signed the trip application and paid their deposits in full. Once an individual on the waiting list accepts a position on the trip, he is liable for all monies due at that time and assumes the same type of liabilities as required of other trip participants.
  6. The trip participant will be informed of departure times, dates, and places. It will be his or her responsibility to meet this schedule or to assume the responsibility, financially and otherwise, for his or her travel arrangements.
  7. The Chattanooga Ski Club is not responsible for any financial liability incurred due to the late arrival of the skier at the ski resort or due to any late arrival on the return trip resulting from bad weather conditions or from other forces beyond the Chattanooga Ski Club’s control.
  8. The Chattanooga Ski Club is not responsible for any injury to an individual during the trip or for the loss of or damage to personal property of any individual.
  9. The Chattanooga Ski Club offers the trip in good faith and reserves the right to make any changes in the trip deemed necessary to the best interests of the Chattanooga Ski Club and of the trip participants. A participant is bound by the stated conditions of the trip.
  10. Single participants that do not request a single room or have not identified a roommate will be informed of other single participants not having roommates. If a roommate can not be obtained, the single traveler assumes the financial responsibility for a single room.
  11. The trip captain is the designated representative of the Chattanooga Ski Club. Any deviations by trip participants to contracted provisions of the trip, for example deviations to travel and/or lodging accommodations must be approved by the trip captain. Participants that deviate from the contracted provisions of the trip accept any additional costs resulting from the deviation.
